My Guiding Values

Painting of Squamish values and principles

For one of my Master’s classes we were asked to create a presentation on Indigenous Language Revitalization and Leadership.  We were challenged with the task to think about what we learned up to that point in the program and make personal connections with ILR and leadership. A first thought is always stories and legends but in my language learning, I was on our land a lot and it grounded me in ways I did not know was possible. There is "power" in knowledge, and every foot step I took in places our Ancestors walked was another layer of healing, another "teaching" I picked up. Our land is beautiful and so powerful beyond the cityscape. If we all only knew the depth and breadth of our land......

Our powerful majestic mountain that surround us are the oldest ancestors here, they see us everyday and they help guide my decision making and it doesn’t only apply to leadership roles.  Seeking guidance from something far greater than you supports me and gives me strength in knowing every decision I make is based off my understanding of my world and the world around me. I am ok with that.
