[sta7 mes]
Geographical location: village below Chief Mountain in Squamish Valley.

*Please note: Before contact we did not navigate within our territory by means of an outlined/defined map. We navigated from knowledge of the land and the seasons.
St’a7mes no given translation. This was one of our major villages. It was a great location for many different kinds of resources such as: halibut, red snapper, cod, spring salmon, ducks, deer, black bears, and eulachons. Spiritual training area in the Squamish River channel adjacent to Stá7mes. One of our legends comes from this village, the main character is from Stá7mes and the track of Sin̓ulhḵay is left behind on the Chief Mountain. It can be seen from the base to the top of the mountain. The mountain was transformed and you can see the silhouette of a Chief, people say you can see other things too like deer, dog, seagull, clock, shotgun and a baby with its mother. We used to have a game called ch’ḵwela played in this village.
